Where are you from/where did you grow up?
I am from a rural area in Southwest Wisconsin. I would say I grew up in the two neighboring towns of Fennimore and Boscobel, Wisconsin.
When/why did you get into peer support?
I found my niche in peer support around 2013 and was able to get certified not long after. I have been working as a certified peer supporter and advocate for well over a decade now. I could really go into a long history of how and why I went into peer support, but I would simplify it by simply stating that I firmly believe in helping others and being a positive force in the world.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I find it to be meaningful, purposeful, and necessary. I enjoy the authenticity and realness behind the type of work that I am involved in. I enjoy making connections and seeing others succeed in their journey.
What are some of the challenges in your job?
Wow! Life.. Life always presents challenges. Some challenges can be predicted, others cannot. It is how we respond to those challenges that truly matters.
Any hobbies or interests outside of work?
I have several interests and hobbies outside of work. I will make it easy and just state that I enjoy learning new things, nature, music, and art. I also of course need to mention that I am a first-time dad and am enjoying parenthood currently!
What is your favorite movie/book/TV show?
I'm not really sure about this. I tend not to have favorites when it comes to these things. I do enjoy Sci-Fi and fantasy adventure though. For reading my tastes are varied and diversified, but I am currently enjoying books by Kurt Vonnegut and Zecharia Sitchin, I've also enjoyed reading “The Tao of Pooh” and “The Te of Piglet.”
What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten?
Be the light of hope you wish to see in the world.
