Renee Sommer founded At The Roots LLC because she saw a need in the Chippewa Valley - affordable mental health support that was different than the traditional clinical model. Renee has lived experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD, C-PTSD, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and self-medicating. As a sexual assault survivor and member of the LGBTQ+ community, she offers services that are trauma-informed, inclusive, and peer-centered.
As a self-proclaimed “giant introvert” with the long list of lived experiences above, Renee is an expert at managing energies, setting boundaries, and finding creative ways to harness strengths in order to live well and thrive. With a firm belief that we can all do big things, Renee has learned how to “do life differently” and has opened several successful businesses, gone back to school to study psychology, written a novel, and published several journals and workbooks all while coping with mental health challenges and the demands of daily life.
Renee believes that connection and community are vital to overall health and wellness for everyone - while honoring that what that looks like will be different for each individual. It’s in this spirit that Renee provides peer support services, skills development, and educational opportunities for folks in the Chippewa Valley.
When she’s not providing peer support services or cooking up a fun event for At The Roots LLC, she’s most likely to be found in a cuddle puddle with her two dogs and two cats (okay one cat… because the other isn’t much of a cuddler), looking for new adventures with her husband and stepson, or lost in a book (or let’s face it - binge watching TikTok videos). She’s never met a fuzzy animal she didn’t want to befriend, a plant she didn’t want to adopt and fuss over, or a haunted house she didn’t want to explore.
