Provider Spotlight: Regina Melendy

Say hello to Regina, Connection Specialist and one of our newest members of At The Roots. Regina is someone you’ll quickly find easy to talk to. With a wide range of experiences and a lineup of genuinely cool hobbies, she brings a fresh perspective and a lot of personality to the team. Read on to learn more about Regina in her own words:

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I was born in Hayward, WI. I moved to Mondovi, WI in 5th grade. Graduated high school in Mondovi, WI, and moved to Eau Claire after graduation. I moved around a little bit, but have been primarily in Eau Claire, WI for the last 30 years.

Why did you get into peer support?

I got into peer support because I have found, throughout my life, that people seek me out for advice. I feel my life lessons learned are worthy of passing along to others. I have found that helping others makes me happy and gives me a sense of purpose.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

What I enjoy most about this job is hearing the success stories from the participants.

What are some of the challenges in your job?

Some challenges associated with this job are hearing when participants have not met goals or have regressed instead of making headway on goals that they had set for themselves.

Any hobbies or interests outside of work?

I have a lot of hobbies. I mostly do artwork, such as drawing, painting, sculpting, sewing, jewelry making, and crafting. I also do woodworking, and some carpentry. I like to go hiking, and search for semi-precious minerals. I also write poetry and song lyrics. I like to fish, camp, and attend music festivals and concerts.

What is your favorite movie/book/TV show?

Favorite movies are action packed and full of adventure. I also like fantasy. Harry Potter series, Armageddon, Lord of the Rings series, Avengers, Top Gun, Major Pain. Favorite TV Shows: Top Model, Project Runway, Big Bang Theory, Lucifer, Young Sheldon, and The Voice. Favorite author: Stephen King.

Anything interesting or weird that your coworkers might not know about you?

In high school, the Pom Pon squad I was on, took 1st place in the WI state competition. I have a motorcycle license, but no motorcycle.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten?

Best advice I ever got: "Finish what you started."
