Very Mad Book Club: We’ve Been Too Patient

  • At The Roots LLC 800 Wisconsin Street BLDG D02 SUITE 301 Eau Claire United States (map)

Join us for a four-session community book club as we read We’ve Been Too Patient: Voices from Radical Mental Health.

Edited by L.D. Green and Kelechi Ubozoh, this powerful anthology brings together first-person stories, essays, and poetry from people living at the intersection of mental health, trauma, and activism.

These are not clinical case studies - they’re lived experiences, asking what healing looks like when we move beyond the system and toward community, creativity, and justice.

This group is for anyone curious about reimagining mental health from the inside out - whether you’ve been through the system, work in it, or are questioning what “recovery” even means.

Together, we’ll explore the stories, emotions, and movements shaping a more human future for care.

How It Works:

  •  We’ll meet on November 5th and 12th, break for Thanksgiving, and come back together on December 3rd and 10th.

  • The first session will be in person - you’ll get your FREE copy of the book (may be gently used), meet the group, and set the tone for our conversations.

  • After that, we’ll decide together: Registration includes a short poll to vote on continuing online, in person, or alternating formats.

  • Between sessions, you’ll read selected essays and reflect on the themes that resonate most with you. Discussions are gently guided to support deep, honest, and respectful conversation.

Content Disclaimer:
This book includes personal stories that touch on trauma, psychiatric harm, suicide, and identity-based oppression. For that reason, this group is open to adults only. Some material may be triggering depending on your experiences.

We hold space with care, curiosity, and community.

Let’s imagine something better, together.
